Title: Choosing the Right Power Tools - Red Box Tools

When you’re in the contracting business, choosing the right power tools is without a doubt one of the most essential parts of making sure the job gets done right the first time. Just by making smart decisions in tool selection, you can save money and manpower.

Power tools that are run off of air compressors are a great choice because they can be done at a much lower cost than traditional tools that are electrically powered.  But how do you know as a contractor what the right power tools are?  First, you’ll need to choose the actual air compressor.  There are two basic types of compressors; the first is called a single-stage model, which is typically used for smaller projects around the house.

The second kind of air compressor is a two-stage model, designed to hold more air and deliver much more power.  Size is also important, so look for both the horizontal and vertical models, and see what kind of horsepower they offer.  Generally if you’re running a large job that will require heavy duty usage, you’ll want a compressor that has at least a 5 horsepower rating.

Many styles offer up a great deal of versatility, so you can adjust both the way the air compressor is stored, and how much power it will provide.  Once you’ve chosen the tank, you can then look for a wide assortment of tools that can be used with it to do any job, ranging from painting, plumbing, building, electrical work, and much more.

For painters, pressure-fed spray guns are a terrific option.  These guns can give you even coating, fast spraying coverage, and high volume.  In use with a compressor, they can get the job finished in almost half the time of a conventional paint spray gun.  If you are involved in either metalworking or mechanical work, there are a great deal of wonderful drills, screwdrivers, wrenches and more that offer a whole lot of torque pressure.

Most air compressor-run tools for this kind of contracting work can give you at least a torque of 1,000 pounds.  In addition, wholesale air wrenches can give you well over a 380-foot impact, which is extremely suitable for larger jobs such as building.  Nailing is one of the most common jobs of contractors, so choosing an air nail gun that can handle the job and one that’s easy to use is important.

Look for models that have rubber hand grips so that it’s easier on the hand and fingers.  Many models are now made out of lighter aluminum, which also makes things easier on workers because they are much more lightweight.  Another key to finding the right power or air nail gun is to look for ones that have dual mode nailing capacities.

This means they can switch from a single nailing capacity to a set cycle mode, and the nails go in much easier and faster.  No matter what power tools you choose, getting some that are used in conjunction with an air compressor can make everything run a lot smoother.  Be sure to maintain both your compressor and your tools, checking periodically for any kind of damage.  With the right combinations, you can save time and money on a great selection of modern and useful power tools that can handle any contracting job.
