Title: Wood Fireplaces vs. Gas Fireplaces - Red Box Tools
There is nothing more romantic than curling up in front of a blazing fire on a cold winter’s night. Yet today, there are a few options of how that fireplace will be constructed. Many homeowners are opting for vent free gas fireplaces as compared to the traditional brick and mortar fireplace. There are benefits and drawbacks to both, and for some, a fireplace just isn’t’ the same if it can be operated via remote control. For those homeowners, the traditional fireplace is as American as apple pie and baseball and nothing will make them switch to a gas powered fireplace.
One of the benefits that has increased the popularity of the gas-powered fireplace is that it is cost effective. Many people are also surprised to learn that a gas-powered fireplace can be an integral part of your home’s heating system. Gas powered fireplaces are 99% more efficient than traditional fireplaces. They lose less heat and are safer. Another factor that has given gas-powered fireplaces a boost is that they don’t require the use of a chimney. Vent free fireplaces do not require either vents or chimneys. They can easily be installed in any home without imposing upon the home’s established architectural design.
Brick and mortar fireplaces are a lot of work. Not only do they require wood logs, but also they are harder to maintain. To keep a fire burning, someone must manual poke and stir the embers. When it is time to put the fire out, the damper must remain opened for at least 12 hours, or toxic chemicals could fill the house and deplete the level of oxygen in a home. However, when one wants to turn off the gas-powered fireplace, they simply turn it off. Technology has made significant advances and the threat of breathing toxic fumes is very small and is non-existent when choosing vent free gas powered logs.
