Title: Installing Molding

You can transform your home from drab to dazzling just by installing molding.  There are a number of different styles and choices available in molding making it the perfect addition to spice up any home’s décor.  You can also choose different colors, materials, and patterns in molding and it truly adds a touch of elegance, grace, and style.  There are basically three types of molding.  These are: ceiling moldings, base moldings, and door and window moldings.

Ceiling moldings are used to cover the gap that may exist between the wall and the ceiling.  It is important to note that when you are considering installing molding for your ceiling that a wide molding may give the appearance of a small room.  This may be desired, if you feel that your ceilings are too high and spacious.  However, if you have limited space and would like to give the illusion that a room is larger than it is, consider choosing thin molding.  Crown molding is a decorative style that looks beautiful wherever it is installed.  You can find beautiful crown molding for your ceiling that will give your room a classic touch.

Base molding is applied at the base of your wall, where it meets the floor.  Sometimes, they are applied with a base cap as well.  Many people choose to use similar styles with their molding to keep a room in harmony.  As with ceiling moldings, choosing thin moldings will make a small room look larger, and wider moldings will give a diminished appearance.

Molding that is applied to the perimeter of doors and windows helps to showcase them and can give them a “picture frame” look.  Most of these moldings have rounded edges unlike base molding which may have a squared edge.

If you would like to install your own decorative moldings you will need to gather your tools before you begin your project.  The tools needed to install molding include: a ladder, nails, measuring tape, miter box, choice of molding, coping saw, putty knife, hammer, nail set, level, and backsaw.
