Introduced in 1994, the Cessna Excel (Model 560XL) is a midsize business jet. The project had focused on introducing a new design, combined with contemporary technology. The Cessna Excel was initially powered by twin Pratt & Whitney Canada PW500 turbofan engines, and had been designed to feature a cruciform tail and supercritical airfoil. At the time the Cessna Excel dominated the industry by offering the roomiest cabin in its class. The XLS+ variant was soon announced, offering improved performance due to a number of modifications. The Cessna Citation XLS+ was equipped with FADEC control system and EFIS avionics, powered by PW545C engines. The nose of the aircraft was also revised to allow for additional baggage.
