The British Aerospace 146 is a short-haul and regional airliner that was manufactured in the United Kingdom by British Aerospace. The plans for the aircraft were conceived in the early 1970s, when Hawker Siddeley launched a new project for a 70-seat regional airliner with a high wing and T-tail, called the HS.146 Project. The new aircraft was intended to fill the gap between turboprop-powered airliners and small jet airliners. Unfortunately, due to the 1973 oil crisis the project had to be put on hold. British Aerospace had pursued the development however, and was able to re-launch the project in 1978. The British Aerospace 146-100 was first delivered in 1983, fitted with a luxurious interior, while the 146-100QT became the freight configuration variant. Further variants were also introduced, such as the Series 200 and 300, these were later re-designated by Avro.
