The Britten-Norman BN-2 Islander is a light utility and regional airliner, designed and initially produced by Britten-Norman. The firm intended to address the demands for an affordable, twin piston engine aircraft in the aviation market, in the expanding commuter airline sector. Surveys had demonstrated a preference for aircrafts with larger capacity, over more range or speed, resulting in Britten-Norman prioritising payload over these aspects. The Islander remains to be one of the most successful aircrafts is Europe, with over 700 Islanders still in operation. The later variant BN-2B-26 utilised the more advanced twin Lycoming O-540-E4C5 engines.
