An evolution of the Westland Super Lynx, this rotorcraft is optimally designed for battlefield utility, search and rescue, aerial reconnaissance, anti-submarine warfare (ASW), anti-surface warfare (ASuW), utility, command and control, and troop transport missions.

The development of the Wildcat commenced in the early 2000s as the Future Lynx, aimed at replacing the existing Lynx helicopters used by both the Royal Navy and British Army.

To meet the demands of modern military requirements, the Wildcat incorporates various advancements, including a glass cockpit, onboard integrated digital open systems architecture, Bowman communications system, and cutting-edge mission systems.
