The development of the Wildcat commenced in the early 2000s as the Future Lynx, aimed at replacing the existing Lynx helicopters used by both the Royal Navy and British Army.

To meet the demands of modern military requirements, the Wildcat incorporates various advancements, including a glass cockpit, onboard integrated digital open systems architecture, Bowman communications system, and cutting-edge mission systems.

Noteworthy airframe improvements, such as a redesigned tail rotor and nose, enhanced structural strength, and an extended lifespan of 12,000 flight hours, contribute to the Wildcat’s operational effectiveness. The helicopter’s maiden flight took place on 12 November 2009, and it officially entered service with the Army Air Corps on 29 August 2014.
