Bell 525 Relentless

The Bell 525 Relentless represents a cutting-edge development in American super-medium-lift helicopters, currently under the skilled craftsmanship of Bell Textron. Unveiled at the 2012 Heli-Expo in Dallas, Texas, the Bell 525 boasts a super-medium-lift capacity and was first airborne on 1 July 2015. With its dynamic design, it’s primed to transport up to 19 passengers, setting a new standard in utility and troop transport, search and rescue (SAR) operations, and military applications.

Bell envisions the Bell 525 meeting the requirements of military customers, offering a 20-passenger utility and troop transport or serving in search and rescue missions. While initially proposed for the UK’s New Medium Helicopter program, aimed at replacing the RAF’s Puma helicopters, it did not progress past the pre-qualification questionnaire stage.

Designed as a medium-lift helicopter, the Bell 525 incorporates composite and metal construction, with the distinction of being the first commercial helicopter featuring fly-by-wire flight controls with tactile cues. Powered by a pair of GE CT7-2F1 turboshaft engines and equipped with a new composite five-blade main rotor system, the 525 aims to achieve Category A Takeoff certification, ensuring the capability to continue takeoff or landing after the failure of one turbine engine.

In an emerging “Super-Medium” size category, the Bell 525 is optimally suited for offshore oil and gas operations, with half of its customers originating from this sector. With a design capacity for 19 passengers, surpassing existing super-medium helicopters, the Bell 525 Relentless is poised to redefine the standards of super-medium-lift utility helicopters.
