Cirrus Vision Jet

The Cirrus Vision SF50, also known as the Cirrus Vision Jet, is a single-engine very light jet developed and manufactured by Cirrus Aircraft of Duluth, Minnesota, United States. Development began in 2003, led by Cirrus founders the Klapmeier brothers and their vice president of advanced development Mike Van Staagen.

After initial deposits were received in 2006, Cirrus revealed an aircraft mock-up in June 2007 and a prototype in June 2008. The first flight took place on 3 July 2008. Development faced funding challenges in 2009, but progress resumed after Cirrus was acquired by CAIGA, a Chinese enterprise, in 2011. The first conforming prototype flew on 24 March 2014, leading to FAA certification on 28 October 2016. Deliveries began on 19 December 2016.

Powered by a Williams FJ33 turbofan, the Cirrus Vision Jet features a seven-seat cabin, pressurization, and a range of over 1,200 nautical miles. Notable safety features include a whole-airframe ballistic parachute and autoland system.

The Vision Jet has received praise for its performance, being likened to high-performance single-turboprop aircraft. In 2018, it was awarded the prestigious Collier Trophy for the “greatest achievement in aeronautics or astronautics in America” and holds the distinction of being the first certified single-engine civilian jet.
