Embraer E170 (ERJ-170)

The Embraer E-Jet family is a series of narrow-body twinjet commercial airliners, produced by Embraer of Brazil. Embraer introduced their EMB 170 aircraft at the Paris Air Show in 1999, after choosing to pursue the clean-sheet EMB 170 design, rather than further developing their ERJ 145 aircraft to compose the new 70-seat EMB 170 jetliner. The design comprised of a twin engine arrangement with General Electric CF34-8E powerplants, and utilising the “double bubble” format to facilitate for a stand-up cabin. Before entering service in 2002, the aircraft was re-designated as the Embraer E170. The E170 is considered a versatile aircraft in terms of offering amenities and the luxury of larger regional jets, while being well-optimised to operate on low demand routes efficiently. The Embraer E170 was hence a commercial success, gaining popularity in primarily the United States, where it became widely used as a regional airliner amongst other roles.
